In a recent press conference on September 29, 2025, former detective John Jones, who investigated the notorious 1991 yogurt shop murders in Austin, wore the same green and white striped shirt from that night, symbolizing hope for resolution. During the press conference, it was revealed that DNA evidence has linked Robert Eugene Brashers, a deceased suspected serial predator, to the murders of four teenage girls: Jennifer Harbison, Sarah Harbison, Amy Ayers, and Eliza Thomas.

The case had long remained unsolved despite numerous leads and false confessions. The tragic event, which occurred on December 6, 1991, involved the brutal killings of the girls, followed by a fire set to destroy evidence. However, advancements in DNA testing identified a male profile that did not match previous suspects but connected to Brashers.

Jones, who has kept case files throughout his career, expressed determination to support victims’ families, reaffirming his commitment to solving the case over three decades later. His emotional appearance at the press conference marked a significant moment in a haunting investigation, culminating in Brashers being identified as the likely perpetrator despite his death in the 1990s.
