JetBlue Airways is planning to expand its operations at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York by pursuing takeoff and landing rights formerly held by Spirit Airlines, which recently ceased operations at the historic Marine Air Terminal. JetBlue has confirmed it won these rights, potentially allowing for 12 additional round trips daily.
Although JetBlue will need court and regulatory approvals before adding routes, the airline is also interested in relocating to Terminal A, the Marine Air Terminal, as it would provide cost savings crucial for expansion. Currently, JetBlue operates limited routes from LGA, focusing its New York operations mainly at JFK Airport.
Industry analysts suggest that locating at Terminal A could mean a JetBlue-dedicated terminal, enhancing brand loyalty and improving their credit card portfolio’s performance. JetBlue anticipates expansion could begin in 2027, depending on approvals, and plans to evaluate how best to utilize the new slots, likely focusing on routes to Florida and upstate New York.
