A woman saved her husband from being partially sucked out of a Ryanair plane after an engine failure caused a breach in the aircraft’s acrylic window. During the incident, Svetlana Grkovic clung to her husband Ljubisa Karovic’s leg as he was pulled out up to his chest for two minutes. With the help of other passengers, she managed to pull him back inside, although Karovic lost consciousness multiple times and is now hospitalized in Greece with severe injuries.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki, Greece, with the plane rapidly descending 9,000 feet due to cabin depressurization. Passengers reported panic as oxygen masks deployed, and many feared the plane would crash. Grkovic expressed gratitude to the witnesses who assisted, especially a man she wishes to thank personally.
Ryanair confirmed the flight returned to Thessaloniki after the incident, and the airline arranged alternative transportation for the remaining passengers. The event is under investigation by the Hellenic Aviation and Rail Safety Investigation Agency.
