Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are facing class action lawsuits in the U.S. due to ongoing memory shortages that have driven DRAM prices to historic highs. Consumers claim that the companies intentionally restricted supply to inflate prices. The lawsuit, identified as case 3:26-cv-06345, is an antitrust matter being handled by Judge Noel Wise in the Northern District of California, with compensation sought for the affected consumers.
This legal action echoes past cases, notably a 2005 indictment where Samsung was fined for DRAM price manipulation. The current surge in memory demand, particularly linked to the AI sector, has exacerbated shortages, even as the companies work on expanding production capacities.
With multi-year agreements in place with key customers, average consumers may continue to face price increases and supply shortages well into the future.
