A single-engine Piper Cherokee plane crashed near a residential area in Bowie, Maryland, on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of all three men on board. The crash occurred around 11:30 PM while the plane was en route from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Airport.
Emergency responders, including multiple local agencies, began a search after an iPhone collision alert indicated the accident around 11:53 PM. The wreckage was found in a wooded area near Scarlet Oak Terrace and a public park.
Authorities believe the aircraft was associated with a flight school and may have been on a training flight. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an investigation, which will include examining air traffic communications, weather conditions, and the aircraft’s maintenance records.
Despite being relatively safe and commonly used for training, the circumstances surrounding the crash are still unclear, particularly since the weather conditions were reported to be good at the time. Further details are expected from NTSB investigations.
