Sony recently communicated internally that it will stop offering first-party single-player games on PC storefronts like Steam, a decision confirmed by PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino during an interview with Famitsu for the company’s 40th anniversary. Nishino emphasized that platform selection is based on the characteristics of individual titles and that they will focus on maximizing the unique PlayStation gameplay experience for first-party single-player games.
He mentioned that while exclusivity for these games is suggested, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of PC ports, especially for second-party titles. Conversely, Sony aims to expand its online multiplayer community by continuing to release live service games on both PS5 and PC. Nishino’s careful wording reflects a strategic approach, leaving the door open for potential future changes regarding game releases while currently maintaining exclusivity for titles like “Ghost of Yorei” and “God of War Laufey.”
In summary, while there are no drastic changes right now, Sony’s strategy could evolve, particularly in terms of game availability on various platforms.
