Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 is causing dangerous flooding in parts of Louisiana and Texas, with the National Hurricane Center reporting a shift in its track further east. Areas such as Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans should prepare for 10 to 12 inches of rain over the next few days. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Louisiana coast from Sabine Pass to Morgan City.
The storm is expected to drift off the south Texas coastline, possibly strengthening with winds up to 40 mph. Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the season, is predicted to make landfall along the Louisiana-Texas border on Wednesday night and move inland overnight.
A flood watch is currently in effect for parts of North Shore Parish, River Parish, Bayou Parish, and the metro area until 7 a.m. Friday. Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare for possible flooding conditions.
Weather forecasts indicate heavy rain throughout the day today, intensifying late afternoon and overnight, while Wednesday will see lighter rain in the morning and heavier in the evening. Thursday may bring the heaviest rain in the morning and throughout the afternoon. Rainfall is expected to accumulate between 5 to 10 inches on the North Shore, 3 to 5 inches in River parishes and metro areas, and 1 to 3 inches on bayous and beaches.
