In the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, New Jersey’s World of Blue Hotel is attracting attention for its exorbitant prices, charging $450 for parking and around $2,300 for a room on the final match night. Despite its proximity to MetLife Stadium, where the final will take place, occupancy rates are low, ranging from 8% to 30% during initial matches, with only 4% booked for the final as of June 12.
Travel agents attribute the lagging demand to high ticket prices, soaring airfares, and a lack of affordable lodging options. Even budget accommodations, like the Super 8 and Extended Stay America, have elevated their rates significantly, with prices approaching $500 and $900, respectively, for the final night.
While local hotels have started reducing prices for early matches, luxury venues maintain high rates. With limited demand, some fans are opting to stay in New York City, where occupancy is also below expectations, at 28% for the finals compared to 40% the previous year. Analysts say that as later matches feature stronger teams, hotel demand may increase.
