Juan Hernandez, who began his career as a welder at SpaceX in 2015, has seen his life transformed by the company’s rise to a $75 billion valuation following its debut on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX. Initially unaware of SpaceX’s significance, Hernandez was motivated by a friend’s recommendation and accepted a job that included stock options worth $10,000. Over ten years, he advanced from a welder to a supervisor, emphasizing the importance of employee equity in fostering motivation and engagement.
Now working for Blue Origin, he owns 6,500 shares of SpaceX, valued at over $1 million. Despite his newfound wealth, Hernandez remains humble, crediting his immigrant background for his work ethic and aiming to pass his financial lessons to his three children, including teaching them about investing. Grateful for the opportunities SpaceX provided, he expressed a desire to thank Elon Musk for impacting the lives of many.
