The Patriots kicked off their mandatory minicamp with a 90-minute practice session at the New Balance Athletics Center. Attendance was a key focus, with star cornerback Christian Gonzalez and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte attending after missing previous OTAs. Notable absences included right tackle Morgan Moses, edge rusher Harold Landry III, and second-round draft pick Gabe Jacas, who remains unsigned and has missed all spring training due to contract issues and recovery from surgery.
Gonzalez participated in individual drills but observed team activities, expressing his desire to stay with the Patriots: “I want to be rewarded as a patriot. I love this city.” Similarly, Boutte indicated he hopes to remain with the team amidst a crowded receiver roster following the additions of Pro Bowlers AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs.
Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed Jacas’s absence, stating it relates to his unsigned status and ongoing “processing.” Such absences could hinder Jacas’s transition to the NFL.
During practice, the Patriots focused on red zone situations to improve their effectiveness, having ranked poorly in both red zone offense and defense last season. Coaches highlighted the need for tightening strategies as they aim to enhance overall performance heading into the season.
