Boston police arrested five climate protesters on Monday for blocking traffic in the Back Bay area. Officers responded around 7:44 a.m. to reports of a pink sedan and demonstrators outside a hotel, who linked arms and clasped hands in barrels to obstruct the road. Some complied with police requests to move, while others remained attached to their devices.
Two protesters eventually moved to a parked vehicle, securing their hands in a welded bucket. Police, assisted by the Boston Fire Department, began to remove them. During this process, another protester interfered, prompting police action. The arrested individuals are Laura Honeywood (45, West Roxbury), Anna Pancoast (39, Arlington), Julian Manitz (41, Chelsea), Jamie McGonagill (34, Gainesville, FL), and Merrill Blott (57, Allston). They face charges including unlawful assembly and resisting arrest, with Pancoast also charged with obstructing a school bus service. They are due in Boston Municipal Court.
In a separate incident, a dumpster caught fire during a parade in Dorchester but was extinguished quickly, causing no property damage. The Boston Police Department recorded 205 incidents in the previous day, including several assaults and thefts, with various arrests made for offenses ranging from assault on a police officer to public drinking.
