A terrorist attack in the Chalong area on Sunday resulted in one death and at least five injuries. The incident began in Kochav Yair and involved alerts for residents to evacuate. An investigation revealed that only one terrorist was involved, and police found the terrorist’s vehicle, which had Israeli plates.
The attack occurred while emergency services were conducting a drill nearby, leading to a rapid response. The deceased was about 35 years old, with two people seriously injured and three others sustaining minor injuries. The injured were taken to local hospitals.
In the aftermath, Prime Minister Netanyahu held briefings with security officials, including Major General Avi Brus and Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, about the situation. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stated that captured terrorists would face the death penalty under a recently passed law, reflecting strong sentiments against terrorism.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the attack as a wake-up call, citing rising violence and illegal weapons among Israeli Arabs as a critical threat. Hamas praised the attack but did not claim responsibility, linking it to ongoing Israeli military actions.
