At Summer Game Fest 2026, one of the key highlights was the announcement of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, the sequel to the successful action game Stellar Blade. While an eye-catching debut trailer introduced a new protagonist, the release platforms for Blood Rain remain unconfirmed.
Previously, Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive from Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2024, followed by a PC release a year later, but no versions for Xbox Series X and S. This time, developer Shift Up plans to publish Blood Rain independently, sparking speculation about its potential multi-platform launch, including PC and Xbox.
In an interview with IGN, Shift Up’s CEO, Hyungtae Kim, stated that it was too early to confirm platforms, though he hinted at a broader approach to reach more fans. He emphasized the challenge of developing games amid rising costs and technological limitations, particularly due to increasing expenses in gaming and computer components, exacerbated by a memory shortage tied to the AI boom.
Microsoft’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, highlighted similar concerns about rising hardware costs and the urgent need for innovation to make gaming products affordable. As the industry faces memory shortages and potential delays in next-generation consoles—like Sony’s PlayStation 6, possibly pushed to 2028 or 2029—Stellar Blade: Blood Rain seems set to target PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, but a release timeline is still uncertain.
