The mother of missing Auburn University student James “Weston” Higginbotham has requested police assistance in searching for her son, who disappeared a week ago after an argument related to artificial intelligence during a family trip to Japan. Weston was last seen at Kyoto Station and later entered a forested area near Yamashina. His mother, Nancy Higginbotham, emphasized the urgency of the search due to limited food sources in the region, appealing to hikers and outdoor enthusiasts for help.
Weston, 20, has been missing since leaving his hotel on May 29, wearing light purple pants and a “Save the Bees” T-shirt. Police investigations revealed security footage of him walking alone in Yamashina. However, heavy rain from a typhoon delayed the search efforts until Wednesday, when search teams began combing the area.
Nancy described the search efforts, highlighting the commitment of local police and the deployment of search dogs and helicopters. She explained that the argument over her use of ChatGPT caused Weston emotional distress, but she does not believe he poses a danger to himself. She shared her family’s confidence in Japanese authorities and continues to hold onto hope for his safe return.
