The Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded to a United Airlines flight diverted to Madison due to a mental health crisis involving a 75-year-old unruly passenger. The flight, initially traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis, was redirected after a tip was received about the disturbance.
Passengers reported the man appeared confused and may have approached the cockpit. He was restrained and handcuffed by deputies, but no injuries were reported among the passengers. His family was contacted and is on their way to reunite with him in Madison.
The FBI’s Milwaukee Division is handling the investigation and has determined that no criminal charges will be pressed. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the flight landed safely at approximately 9:10 p.m. local time.
