A Russian drone crashed into an apartment complex in Galați, Romania, injuring two people, according to the Romanian Defense Ministry. This incident occurred during a renewed wave of Russian drone attacks on Ukrainian targets near the Romanian border. The drone, tracked by radar, hit the roof of a ten-story building, causing a fire and leading to the evacuation of roughly 70 residents.
Romania’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as a “grave escalation” and has informed NATO and allies, requesting enhanced anti-drone capabilities. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed solidarity with Romania, while NATO pledged to protect its member state’s territory.
In a separate incident, a drone without explosives was found near Baia Mare, prompting an investigation into its origin. Local authorities in Ukraine reported repeated drone attacks on the Izmail port area, which is strategically significant due to its location on the Danube River.
