On Sunday, the College Baseball Selection Committee revealed the 16 regional host schools for the 2026 NCAA Baseball Tournament, which begins on May 29. Selected hosts include Georgia, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Florida among others. The final host site seeding will be announced on ESPN2 on Monday.
The list had few surprises, as most candidates had been narrowed down to 17. Arkansas, projected as a top host, fell short after losing to Georgia in the SEC title game, allowing Mississippi State to secure the final spot despite Arkansas’s stronger overall resume and season performance.
This choice may frustrate Arkansas fans, as they argue their team’s achievements outweigh Mississippi State’s. The committee’s preference for RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) over overall performance raises questions about the selection process, particularly for teams like Mercer and Kentucky. Chairman Michael Alford previously expressed a desire to prioritize qualitative assessments, but the host selection suggests RPI remains a dominant factor.
Almost all automatic bids have been decided, including schools from various conferences like East Carolina and Kansas.
