The Buffalo Sabers have extended head coach Lindy Ruff’s contract for two more years after he led the team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 15 years. Despite losing in a Game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens, Ruff expressed disappointment in not reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, but excitement about continuing with the team. He credited his wife, who is also his assistant coach, for her support in his decision to stay. General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen praised Ruff’s adaptability and relationship with the team’s staff, noting his openness to new strategies. Under Ruff, the Sabers achieved a remarkable turnaround, finishing with a record of 39-9-5 after being at the bottom of the Eastern Conference early in the season. Ruff is also a finalist for the 2026 Jack Adams Award and ranks fourth all-time in coaching wins.
