Investigators concluded their search at the home of Susan Flores in Arroyo Grande for Christine Smart’s body without recovering any remains. The search followed positive soil tests indicating the presence of human remains. San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputies, soil scientists, and radar experts employed a warrant for the search, focusing on whether convicted murderer Paul Flores hid victims’ bodies at his mother’s home nearly 30 years ago.
Sheriff Ian Parkinson confirmed that while they couldn’t confirm the identity of remains, evidence supports their previous findings. Paul Flores, last seen with Smart in 1996, was arrested in 2021, later sentenced to life in prison in 2023. Interest in the case surged after a podcast in 2019 brought renewed attention, leading to further investigations, including past searches of properties linked to the Flores family, which have yielded no results so far.
Experts involved in the investigation are committed to providing closure for Smart’s parents, despite years of dead ends and challenges in locating her remains.
