The New York Yankees have removed Anthony Volpe from the 10-day injured list, opting to send him to Triple-A instead of activating him for the major league roster. This decision follows Volpe’s recovery from shoulder surgery last October and his recent minor league rehab assignment, which concluded after 13 games. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that while Volpe is in good shape, he would benefit from continued regular play in the minors.
Volpe debuted on Opening Day in 2023 but has not met expectations, batting .222/.283/.379 over his career with 52 home runs. His defensive performance, though strong, declined last season due to injury. The Yankees acquired utility player Jose Caballero, who has performed well at shortstop, batting .259 and showing strong defensive skills.
With the Yankees currently in a solid position (23 wins and 11 losses), they see no urgency to recall Volpe. Caballero’s performance and another top shortstop prospect, George Lombard Jr., could impact Volpe’s future role with the team as he aims to regain his previous form while maintaining team control until 2028.
