Bruce Buffer, the UFC’s in-cage announcer for over 30 years, recently faced criticism after mistakenly announcing Marcin Tybura as the winner of a heavyweight bout against Tyrell Fortune at UFC Seattle. Moments later, he corrected himself, declaring Fortune the true winner. Buffer accepted responsibility for the confusion, emphasizing that he is his own worst critic. UFC CEO Dana White supported him, acknowledging that while mistakes happen, Buffer is usually very professional.
Buffer also recounted a similar situation at UFC 327 where the announcement of a majority draw was later reversed to a tie. He acknowledged the chaos from the commission but maintained accountability for his announcements. Despite the pressure, he’s determined to do his job well and feels deeply for the fighters who are affected by such mistakes.
Looking ahead, Buffer is involved in the upcoming Bud Light UFC Summer Series, which features several events, autographed memorabilia, and a concert. He expressed his regret for the emotional highs and lows he inadvertently caused fighters but remains committed to honoring their efforts in the octagon.
