This move comes as the team’s middle infield remains unsettled following Gabriel Arias’s hamstring injury, which prompted Brian Rocchio’s shift from second base to shortstop. The Guardians had called up Juan Brito to fill in at second, but he struggled offensively, leading to the opportunity for Bazana.
Bazana, who has performed well in Triple-A Columbus with a .287 average and strong on-base skills (17.9% walk rate), is known for his advanced hitting and patient approach. He will join fellow newcomer Chase DeLauter in coach Steven Vogt’s lineup, offering options at second base and possibly designated hitter. Though Bazana was initially expected to quickly ascend to the majors, health issues limited his play last season.
Bazana is seen as a solid prospect, ranking among the top 25 minor league players per various outlets. He is also positioned to qualify for Prospect Promotion Incentives, but his late-season call-up could impact the Guardians’ draft compensation if he performs well as a rookie.
