The Minnesota Vikings have traded Pro Bowl edge rusher Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick in 2026 and another in 2027, while also sending the 244th pick in this draft to the Eagles. Greenard, who turns 29 in May, signed a four-year contract with the Eagles worth $100 million, including $50 million guaranteed. Although the Vikings did not want to let Greenard go, the trade provides them with additional draft capital and financial flexibility, allowing third-year edge rusher Dallas Turner to take on a more prominent role.
Greenard was signed by the Vikings in 2024 to replace Daniel Hunter and was seen as a key player in defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ system. However, he was seeking a raise to become one of the top-paid edge rushers but remained under his current contract due to the Vikings’ cap constraints. Following this move, the Vikings are expected to focus on the defensive line with their remaining draft picks.
For the Eagles, Greenard’s signing comes after losing Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers and indicates their desire for a top-three edge rusher alongside Jayrix Hunt and Nolan Smith. Greenard’s versatility in pressuring quarterbacks and run defense makes him an ideal fit for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s scheme.
