Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt criticized Mayor Karen Bass for her “performative declarations” regarding the city’s newly announced environmental plan. He argued that the plan mostly restates initiatives from the past and fails to address pressing issues like drug encampments, which he claims are worsening public health and safety.
Pratt highlighted the detrimental effects of these encampments, citing their contribution to fires, pollution, and unsafe living conditions. While he expressed support for electric vehicles (EVs), he emphasized that the city should focus on urgent environmental threats such as toxic waste and public health crises, rather than just the climate measures outlined in Bass’ plan.
He pointed out that high levels of toxic substances have been found in the blood of firefighters and residents affected by recent fires, blaming budget cuts to the Los Angeles Fire Department for exacerbating these issues. Pratt concluded that unless these significant public health threats are addressed, the city’s environmental initiatives would be meaningless.
Meanwhile, Bass promoted her Climate Action Plan at a recent event, asserting that it represents a major step forward, despite many goals being previously established. The plan is an extension of former Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “Green New Deal.”
