On Guemes Island, Washington, authorities have discovered 21 dog carcasses washed ashore in a situation described by local officials as reminiscent of a “horror movie.” The Skagit County Sheriff’s Department began investigating after a dog was found last Thursday. The carcasses, primarily located in the Kelly’s Point area, have been handed over to a forensic veterinarian for necropsy and DNA testing.
Local Fire Chief Olivia Cole reported that while searching further, more carcasses were discovered, raising the total to 21. The origins of these dogs remain unknown, causing speculation among island residents, especially regarding possible links to nearby breeders or boat traffic in the area.
All carcasses were reportedly skinned, with some missing front legs and others found with orange twine around their necks. Cole noted the absence of gunshot wounds or clear signs of dog fighting. Residents are shocked, with some likening the experience to a chilling mystery. The community of about 600 people is eager to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.
