Honor recently showcased its innovative “robot phone” during an event at Mobile World Congress, aiming to differentiate itself from competitors like Samsung and Apple. This device features a camera mounted on a robotic arm that pops out from the phone, allowing it to autonomously track people and objects. Users can interact with the phone’s AI assistant, which can respond affirmatively or negatively by nodding. Honor plans to release this phone in China in the latter half of the year, amidst rising manufacturing costs and memory chip shortages that may affect smartphone pricing in 2026.
In addition to the robot phone, Honor unveiled the Magic V6, its latest foldable smartphone, which boasts a thickness comparable to that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The V6 aims to compete in the premium segment, featuring ultra-thin batteries and the latest Snapdragon processor.
Honor also teased a humanoid robot without many details, indicating its foray into the robotics field, similar to other Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Xpeng. Analysts believe that the launch of these devices is more about generating buzz and increasing brand visibility than immediate sales, especially given the expected high pricing and bulkiness of the robot phone.
