Tom Friend of Sports Business Journal reports that the Tigers, Angels, and Braves are moving on from Main Street Sports, with MLB likely taking over their broadcasts. The Braves have confirmed they’re not returning to Main Street, expressing readiness for “a new era of Braves broadcasting.” Meanwhile, MLB will take over broadcasts for six teams—including the Brewers and Marlins—in 2026, all of which recently terminated contracts with Main Street.
The regional sports network (RSN) model has struggled due to cord-cutting and financial issues, leading to nine teams pulling out last month. Although MLB has successfully managed broadcasts for various teams, the revenue model under this arrangement yields less than previous RSN agreements, impacting team finances and player salaries.
Major League Baseball is looking to control more broadcasts and is preparing for future broadcast rights negotiations expected after 2028. This could affect collective bargaining negotiations, as the current agreement expires on December 1. With the announcement of new streaming prices by the Cardinals and information still pending for teams like the Marlins, fans can expect updates on broadcast options soon.
