The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly signed Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million contract, which includes a $30 million deferral and a $64 million signing bonus. Tucker, turning 29, joins an already formidable lineup featuring stars like Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. His average annual value (AAV) of $57.1 million makes it one of the highest in MLB history, just surpassing Juan Soto’s record in terms of adjusted figures.
Although Tucker was the offseason’s top free agent, he has consistently been an All-Star but hasn’t quite reached the superstar tier of players like Ohtani or Aaron Judge. After limited major league action earlier in his career, he excelled during a shortened 2020 season and recorded impressive home run numbers.
Despite injuries affecting his past season, Tucker finished well, maintaining a career AVG while performing above league average offensively. The Dodgers appear to be banking on him as one of the top hitters in the league, hoping to challenge for a third consecutive championship.
While the Cubs traded Tucker after deciding against a long-term deal, other teams like the Mets and Blue Jays also showed interest but were hesitant on extended commitments.
