Asian online retailers Shein, Temu, AliExpress, and Wish are under investigation by Paris prosecutors after France’s consumer watchdog found child-like sex dolls on their platforms. Shein is set to open its first physical store in Paris, which has sparked backlash from rival clothing brands. Fashion designer Agnes B plans to exit her concession in protest, labeling fast fashion as harmful.
Shein has pledged to cooperate with authorities and provide details about involved sellers and products. AliExpress stated it takes the issue seriously, while Temu affirmed it does not allow such items on its site and is cooperating with French regulators to enhance protections for minors. Wish has also been contacted for comments.
Shein, known for affordable trendy clothing, faces criticism for its environmental practices and labor conditions. Protests occurred outside its new store, though the manager of BHV expressed confidence in Shein’s operations.
The Paris prosecutor’s office is investigating these platforms for making violent or pornographic content accessible to minors, and Shein has announced a ban on the sale of all sex dolls globally. AliExpress has removed the offending listings and will penalize sellers violating its policies. The consumer watchdog noted the problematic nature of the products being listed.
