Last year, Saudi Arabia announced a partnership with Dragon Ball to establish its first official theme park in Qiddiya. However, Chinkei Chino, a notable Dragon Ball editor, criticized the project, viewing it as a luxury destination inaccessible to Japanese children, especially given Saudi Arabia’s political and financial barriers.
The park is set to cover 500,000 square meters, featuring over 30 Dragon Ball-themed attractions and rides, including a high roller coaster. Chino expressed concerns that the park’s location and costs would exclude the very fans that propelled Dragon Ball to international fame, emphasizing the importance of catering to Japanese children who support the franchise.
Other notable editors, like Nejima Kazuguchi and Torishima, echoed her sentiments, stressing the need for meaningful connections with fans and suggesting free access programs for Japanese children. As of August 2025, Saudi Arabia has not announced an opening date for the theme park.
