A shooting incident in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, left two state troopers hospitalized and a woman dead. Troopers Joseph Peretzski and William Jenkins responded to a call in Thompson Township when they were ambushed by 61-year-old Carmine Fano, who opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle. Peretzski sustained two gunshot wounds, and Jenkins was shot multiple times but both are in stable condition after being airlifted to Geisinger Hospital.
Fano was ultimately shot and killed by the police after he refused to comply with commands, remaining a threat. The incident prompted a large response from law enforcement, and the surrounding area, including Route 171, was closed for investigation. Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his support for the injured officers and their families, noting that they are the fifth and sixth Pennsylvania troopers shot within 30 months, raising concerns about officer safety. Further investigations into the use of lethal force are underway.
