The MLB’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby showcased thrilling performances from top sluggers, broadcast live on ESPN. Cal Raleigh emerged as the champion, defeating Junior Kaminero in the finals with a total of 15 home runs, including a longest shot of 464 feet. Raleigh’s performance brought his derby total to 54 homers.
In the semifinals, Raleigh knocked out Oneil Cruz, who electrified the crowd with a 513-foot homer and finished with 34 home runs across two rounds. Cruz’s average home run distance was an impressive 448 feet.
Kaminero also had a strong showing, defeating Byron Buxton in the semis after hitting 21 homers in the first round, including a 460-foot shot. Buxton had a solid outing with 20 home runs in round one but struggled in the semifinals.
Other participants did not advance past the first round, including Matt Olson, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Brent Rooker, and James Wood. Olson and Chisholm had notably disappointing performances, hitting only 15 and 3 home runs respectively. Rooker and Wood showed promise but fell short of advancing with totals of 17 and 16 home runs.
Overall, the derby featured impressive displays of power, with significant distances and high exit velocities, highlighting the excitement of baseball’s premier slugging event.
