Karen Diamond, a victim of an anti-Semitic firebomb attack at Pearl Street Mall, passed away at 82, prompting deep sorrow in the Boulder community. The Boulder Jewish Community Center expressed the impact of her loss, noting her warmth and generosity. Diamond was participating in a walk advocating for the release of hostages held by Hamas when the attack occurred on June 1, injuring 15 others and a dog.
In response to her death, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office has filed additional charges against the accused, Mohamed Sabri Soliman, now facing a total of 66 counts related to the attack on 29 identified victims, including charges of attempted murder and hate crimes. The attack underscores a disturbing rise in anti-Semitic violence, as highlighted by community leaders, including ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, who called for urgent action against such rhetoric.
Active in various community organizations, Diamond was a former president of the Boulder University Women’s Club and had received recognition for her contributions to women’s lives in the Boulder area. Her family has requested privacy during this time of grief, as the community mourns her tragic loss and the ongoing implications of the attack.
