The Hotel O in Jackson, Michigan, once a two-storey facility with 100 rooms, has been demolished due to its transformation into a hotspot for homelessness and drug activity after closing. Owner Ali Mutana expressed shock at the hotel’s downfall, claiming that they had made necessary repairs to comply with building codes. However, after being found guilty of multiple violations and facing legal issues, the property deteriorated, leading to vandalism and theft.

The timeline outlines several legal proceedings against the hotel owners, culminating in a city council decision in 2024 to demolish the hotel, citing its unsafe conditions and association with illegal activities. The city allocated funding for the demolition, which began in early 2025. Mutana continues to discuss future actions with his lawyer while acknowledging the city’s responsibility for securing the property before its closure. The city has placed a lien on the property to recover demolition costs.
