If the Stars reach the Stanley Cup finals this year, San Jose will receive the third-round selection; if not, they’ll get Winnipeg’s fourth-round pick. Sharks General Manager Mike Grier acknowledged the trade as a necessary step towards building for the future, stating the importance of acquiring assets despite Granlund and Ceci’s contributions this season. Granlund led the team with 45 points, while Ceci played a vital role in the defense. Following the trade, the Sharks have accumulated eight draft picks for the upcoming draft. Grier emphasized the urgency of making the trade, noting the recent surge in market interest for player trades. Both players will return to San Jose for an upcoming game against the Sharks.
