O’Keefe’s mother testified that she was taken to the hospital with her son’s friend, where she began to understand the gravity of the situation. There are conflicting accounts about whether John O’Keefe was left inside or outside the house where the party took place, as Reid claimed he was left there. The defense argues that John O’Keefe was a victim of police misconduct and that the investigation is flawed.
During her testimony, Peggy O’Keefe was asked about an interview with Reid that touched on her reactions and expressions regarding her son’s condition, with the prosecution arguing that this demonstrated Reid’s guilt. The defense, however, contended that such evidence should not be admitted in court, arguing it misrepresented the context of the statements made by Reid and aimed to defame her. The trial is ongoing in Norfolk County Superior Court, with jury selection set for April 14.
