A Colorado family faced a distressing experience while boarding a Turkish Airlines flight from Denver International Airport to India. Farhun Bharucha and his family were delayed without explanation for over an hour, eventually told that a toilet was leaking sewage in the cabin. When they finally boarded, they encountered a strong sewage odor, and the leak worsened as the plane began taxiing, causing brown water to spill into the cabin.
The pilot decided to return to the gate before takeoff, and the family spent the night in a nearby hotel, hoping for a quicker rebooking after their luggage was retrieved. Bharucha expressed frustration with the airline for mishandling the situation, emphasizing that it was a technical issue, not an “act of God.”
Aviation expert Steve Cowell noted that leaking toilets are rare and highlighted the airline’s negligence in failing to properly service the aircraft before boarding. He criticized Turkish Airlines for placing passengers in such an unpleasant situation, underscoring their responsibility in ensuring a safe and clean travel environment. Turkish Airlines had not responded to inquiries at the time of publication.
