He criticized the Taliban for allegedly transforming Afghanistan into a “colony of India” and accused them of “exporting terror” by recruiting global insurgents. Asif emphasized that Pakistan desires peace post-NATO withdrawal, yet he stressed that the Taliban’s actions have led to a breakdown in stability.
The ongoing situation complicates a Qatar-brokered ceasefire, with no mention of it by Asif. He also pointed out violations of basic human rights under the Taliban regime. Recent military actions included Afghan attacks on Pakistan in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes, leading to Pakistani airstrikes on Kabul and other provinces.
This conflict occurs amid Pakistan’s crackdown on undocumented migrants, prompting a significant return of Afghans to their homeland. The United Nations reported nearly 2.9 million returnees last year, with around 80,000 so far this year.
