Three police officers were shot dead and two others injured in a shooting in southern Pennsylvania on Wednesday. This incident is one of the deadliest for law enforcement in recent U.S. history.
The shooting occurred while officers were serving a warrant at a farmhouse in North Codra Township, York County, after a related investigation. State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris noted that details were limited due to the ongoing investigation. The suspect, reportedly the ex-boyfriend of a woman residing at the farmhouse, had been warned about by the woman a day prior but eluded police.
The two injured officers were taken to the hospital and are in serious but stable condition. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed condolences, emphasizing the tragic loss and condemning the violence against law enforcement.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of violence against police, marking one of the most violent days since September 11, 2001, with similar incidents occurring in recent years across the nation. In memory of the fallen officers, Shapiro called for flags at public buildings to be flown at half-staff.
