Morgan Geyser, a Wisconsin woman who previously stabbed a classmate to please the fictional character Slender Man, was recaptured in Illinois after escaping from a group home. She and a friend were found loitering and sleeping behind a truck stop, where Geyser initially provided a false identity, admitting later that she “had done something really bad.” After escaping, they traveled from Wisconsin to Posen, Illinois, with Geyser injuring her leg along the way.
Geyser has been living in a group home since her release from a mental health institution, where she spent seven years following the 2014 stabbing incident that nearly killed classmate Peyton Leutner. Geyser was convicted of attempted intentional homicide but claimed mental illness as a defense and received a 40-year psychiatric hospital sentence. Her friend was charged with obstruction and released, stating she wanted to keep Geyser from being alone after her escape. Following the extradition hearing, Geyser is expected to return to the mental health facility.
