The Community Connector Program, launched by Metro in Houston, allows residents to request rides within a 3-5 mile radius of selected neighborhoods, functioning like a ride-sharing app. Operating with small shuttles, the service is on-demand but shared, accommodating up to six people, including the driver. While still in its pilot phase, the program has seen varied ridership, averaging 104 free rides daily, with higher usage in certain districts.
Metro Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Block has emphasized the program’s role in connecting residents to essential services such as medical appointments and grocery shopping. The service currently runs Monday through Friday from 7 AM and is not yet integrated into the Metro fare system, but future rides are expected to cost $1.25. With over 28,000 passengers served since October, the program is exploring expansions based on demand. Residents can learn more and request rides via the Ride Circuit app.
