Tesla is required to remove 64 superchargers from the New Jersey Turnpike as local authorities have opted for Apple Green as the exclusive charging provider. Tesla’s agreement with the New Jersey Turnpike Agency (NJTA) expired, and rather than renewing, the NJTA chose a new provider for all service areas along the turnpike.
Despite CEO Elon Musk’s claims of “corruption,” Tesla has been preparing for this outcome by constructing new charging stations away from the turnpike over the past few years. The decision has prompted mixed reactions, with some agreeing that multiple chargers are preferable and criticizing Musk’s approach. While Tesla’s infrastructure will continue to operate, the shift reflects ongoing changes in charging standards across North America.
