Cobb County’s on-demand transportation program, CobbLinc Go, is considering an expansion to Acworth and Kennesaw after its success in south Cobb. The program, which charges $2.50 per ride and operates similarly to ride-hailing services, has seen significant growth since its launch in October 2024, delivering nearly 3,000 rides monthly and replacing an older service (CobbLinc FLEX).
In December, a state grant of $3.84 million was awarded for a two-year pilot to expand to a 31-square-mile area, including downtown Acworth, Kennesaw State University, and Town Center Mall. Additional plans include expanding the current service area in south Cobb by five square miles.
While the service has gained popularity—particularly among seniors needing access to pharmacies and grocery stores—long-term funding is a concern. It costs significantly more per ride compared to traditional fixed-route buses. The South Cobb program is financed partly through state and federal grants, but future sustainability remains uncertain without a dedicated funding source.
Despite the challenges, local leaders recognize the popularity of microtransit and its potential to enhance transportation options in Cobb. The county’s commissioners have discussed the need to ensure the program does not shift the cost of transportation from individual vehicle ownership to public funding, which complicates support for its further expansion.
