The Anaheim Ducks traded Mason McTavish, their No. 3 pick from the 2021 NHL Draft, to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for the 15th and 29th picks. Following the trade, the Ducks selected Nikita Klepov with the 15th pick. McTavish, who signed a six-year, $42 million contract last fall, had a challenging season, finishing with 17 goals and 41 points after starting strong.
Moving to the Blues, McTavish adds to their growing roster of young players and can play both center and wing. However, he needs to improve his defensive skills and speed, especially after being a healthy scratch during the playoffs. The Ducks’ choice to part ways with McTavish was influenced by his struggles under coach Joel Quenneville’s system and injuries throughout the season.
With the 15th pick, the Ducks chose Klepov, a talented forward who had a standout season in the OHL, while they also moved up from the 29th to the 28th pick to select Marcus Nordmark, son of former Blues player Robert Nordmark.
