A United Airlines flight from Chicago to Minneapolis diverted to Dane County Regional Airport in Madison on Friday night after a 75-year-old passenger attempted to breach the cockpit, as reported by airport audio recordings. The plane landed safely at about 9:30 p.m. after the crew addressed safety concerns regarding the “unruly passenger,” who was described as confused and in a mental health crisis by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries occurred during the incident, and normal operations resumed shortly thereafter. The plane continued to Minneapolis, landing safely just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The passenger’s family in Minnesota has been notified and plans to reunite with him in Madison. At this time, no criminal charges are being filed, and further inquiries should be directed to the FBI’s Milwaukee field office. The flight had over 140 people on board, including six crew members. This is a developing story with updates expected.
