Two young men have been arrested for plotting an attack on a Texas synagogue, intending to “kill as many Jews as possible.” This follows a recent assault at a Detroit synagogue. Angelina Han Hicks, 18, from North Carolina, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and is being held on a $10 million bail. A 16-year-old boy was also arrested, linked to threats against Jewish institutions, although details about him remain scarce.
The investigation began after a tip-off to North Carolina authorities, raising concerns that an imminent threat existed towards Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, Texas. The FBI emphasized the gravity of the situation, citing risks posed by potential communication among conspirators. Hicks’ defense attorney indicated they might involve experts to explore investigative and forensic elements.
In a related incident, Ayman Ghazali, 41, crashed his truck into the Temple of Israel in Michigan earlier this month, armed and seeking to cause harm, but ultimately killed himself after a confrontation with security. No one else was injured. The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston has enhanced security for the community in light of the threats, underscoring the importance of safety for local congregations.
