Passengers on the Regal Princess cruise ship celebrated after crew members rescued four individuals from a distressed makeshift boat in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident occurred on February 23 while the ship was traveling from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico. Passengers noticed the ship changing course before cheer erupted when the captain announced the successful rescue.
The passengers were examined by the ship’s medical team, and the cruise line confirmed that they would be taken to the next port and meet with local authorities. As per international maritime law, ships are obligated to assist those in danger at sea.
This was the second similar rescue from a Caribbean cruise ship in a week, with another instance involving a Carnival Cruise Lines ship also rescuing five people from a makeshift boat. Both cruise lines praised their crews for their prompt and professional responses. The Regal Princess is scheduled to return to Texas on March 1 after stops in Mexico and Honduras.
