Russia launched a significant missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Friday, resulting in six fatalities and injuring at least 35 others, including a pregnant woman. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the barrage included over 430 drones and 18 missiles, targeting high-rise apartment buildings and leading to extensive damage in the capital. Although the Russian government claimed the strikes focused on military and energy sites, Ukrainian authorities indicated damage to civilian structures.
This attack was the largest on Kyiv in three weeks, with previous strikes focusing on the nation’s electrical infrastructure. Zelensky spoke about the need for advanced air defense systems, noting that Ukraine successfully shot down 14 missiles during this wave of attacks. During this time, Ukrainian forces retaliated against targets in Russia, including oil facilities and military assets.
Additionally, the strikes affected other regions, including Odessa, where two individuals were killed by drone strikes. The ongoing conflict reflects continued tensions, with both sides accusing each other of endangering civilians.
