Bed Bath & Beyond’s chairman, Marcus Lemonis, announced that the company’s revival will not include a brick-and-mortar store in California, which has over 39 million residents. Instead, customers in the state will have access only through delivery. Lemonis expressed concerns about California’s regulatory environment, calling it overly restrictive and detrimental to business success.
The company, which recently filed for bankruptcy in April 2023 and closed all locations, has begun reopening stores, with the first near Nashville. Lemonis criticized California’s policies, emphasizing that the decision to avoid physical stores in the state was not politically motivated, despite his criticisms of state regulations.
Additionally, Lemonis addressed ongoing issues related to his other business, Campworld, including disputes over flagpole permissions in San Joaquin County. He has plans to open around 300 medium-sized stores as part of the business’s comeback strategy.
