A trial began in Moscow on August 4, 2025, involving 19 defendants linked to a terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall on March 22, 2024, which killed 149 people and injured over 600. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the rampage, during which gunmen targeted concertgoers and set the venue on fire.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and officials insinuated a Ukrainian connection to the attack, an assertion Kiev vehemently denies. The Investigation Committee claimed the attack aimed to destabilize Russia’s political climate and mentioned that four suspects attempted to flee to Ukraine.
Among the arrested were four Tajikistani citizens who appeared in court showing signs of mistreatment. Other suspects remain at large and are wanted for organizing and recruiting for the attack. Some defendants in the trial are accused of providing assistance to those directly involved in the assault.
